Connect the WhatsApp Business API

Use this guide to connect a WhatsApp Business account to Nviti. You need access to the intended Meta business assets and permission to manage the Nviti connection.

Automatic connection

  1. Open Integrations and create or select a WhatsApp account.
  2. Choose Connect to Facebook when offered.
  3. Sign in to Meta, choose the intended business account and number, and complete the consent steps.
  4. Return to Nviti and review the saved sender details and connection health.
  5. Confirm the default assistant and test an incoming message and reply.

Nviti's connection process attempts the required WABA subscription, phone registration, Flow encryption-key registration, and payment-setup checks. A saved connection record is not proof that every step completed. Review health and payment status before sending a campaign.

Manual connection

Obtain the correct credentials

Prepare the business phone number, Phone Number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, business portfolio ID where needed, and an access token with the appropriate asset access.

For a persistent integration, use Meta's system-user token process and check the token's expiry and assigned assets. Exchanging a short-lived user token for a longer-lived user token does not make it a permanent system-user token. Cloud API uses whatsapp_business_management and whatsapp_business_messaging; business-portfolio operations may also need business_management. See Meta's Cloud API authentication reference.

Save the Nviti connection

  1. Open the WhatsApp account's General settings.
  2. Enter the displayed business phone number and the corresponding IDs in WhatsApp API Configuration.
  3. Enter the token in Access Token.
  4. Save, then copy the account's generated Webhook URL and Verify Token.

The Verify Token validates the webhook setup handshake. It is a different value from the access token used for API requests. Copy the callback URL from Nviti rather than constructing a generic webhook path.

Configure webhook delivery

Set the callback URL and verification token in the Meta app's WhatsApp webhook configuration. Subscribe to messages for incoming messages and their status payloads, and ensure the app is subscribed to the intended WABA. The WABA subscription step is described in Meta's Cloud API reference.

For Nviti's automatic template lifecycle updates, configure the fields handled by the application:

  • message_template_status_update
  • message_template_quality_update
  • message_template_components_update
  • template_category_update

Do not add invented message_deliveries or message_reads subscriptions; delivery/read states are handled within message-status payloads.

Complete readiness checks

Review phone registration, token access, Flow encryption if using forms, and payment setup if using paid templates. Where offered, use Sync Payment Setup and inspect its resulting status. Meta asset eligibility and review requirements depend on the account and deployment; follow the requirements shown for your assets.

Test the full connection

Send a message from a controlled customer number, confirm it appears in Nviti, and verify the reply on the customer's device. If using templates or flows, test those separately with the intended sender. Review any failed delivery rather than treating an API acceptance as completion.

Troubleshooting

Problem Check
Invalid token Expiry, permissions, assigned assets, and the saved value.
Webhook verification fails Exact callback URL, matching Verify Token, and public HTTPS access.
No incoming messages The messages subscription, app-to-WABA subscription, and intended phone number.
Sender unavailable Phone registration, Phone Number ID, active state, and health details.
Template send fails WABA ownership, approval, variables/media, payment setup, and wallet balance.
Flow fails Linked account, encryption setup, sync state, and published form/booking.

Keep credentials in the connection's protected fields. For support, provide the account name, failure time, and safe error reference.
