Knowledge base categories

Categories group related articles and can contain subcategories. Use names your customers and colleagues recognize.

Create a category

This chapter demonstrates published article access and customer search; use the steps below to manage categories.

Check publication and customer article access Watch on YouTube from 04:02
  1. Open categories from Knowledge Base and select Create.
  2. Enter a Name and unique Slug. The slug is suggested from the name when creating the category.
  3. Add a description explaining what belongs here.
  4. Choose a Parent Category, or leave it empty for a top-level category.
  5. Set Order and save.

The editor describes lower order values as appearing first, while the management table initially sorts the Order column descending. Click the column header to change the table sort when reviewing your structure.

Manage the structure

The list shows name, parent, article count, order, and available dates. Filter by parent category, or use Edit to change the hierarchy. The current editor uses fields rather than drag-and-drop organization.

Before deleting a category, review its articles and child categories and move anything you still need. Do not rely on deletion to reorganize them for you.

Start with a small set of meaningful topics and add subcategories only when they make navigation clearer. See Articles.
