Short Links
Short Links let you turn long URLs in your knowledge base into clean nvt.ng links. They are useful when you want links that are easier to share, track, and update without manually editing every article where a URL appears.
What Short Links Do
- Create short URLs like
https://nvt.ng/summer-offer - Track successful clicks and redirect attempts
- Generate a QR code for each short link
- Reuse the same short link when the same destination URL appears again for the company
- Let you edit the short code later and update knowledge base article content that already uses it
Auto-Shortening
Auto-shortening is off by default. When you enable it from the Short Links page, newly created and updated knowledge base articles are scanned for URLs.
When a URL is found:
- Nviti checks whether your company already has a short link for that destination.
- If one exists, the article reuses it.
- If one does not exist, Nviti creates a new
nvt.ngshort link. - The article content is updated to use the short URL.
- The short link appears in the Short Links table for review, analytics, QR download, and editing.
This applies to new article saves and article updates after auto-shortening is enabled. It does not automatically rewrite every old article immediately.
Creating Links Manually
You can create a short link directly from the Short Links page:
- Go to Knowledge Base → Short Links.
- Click Create.
- Add the destination URL.
- Optionally choose a custom short code.
- Save the link.
If the same destination URL already has a company short link, Nviti reuses the existing link instead of creating a duplicate.
Viewing Link Details
Open a short link from the table to view more context. The slide-over view includes:
- QR code for the short URL
- PNG QR-code download
- Short URL and destination URL
- Successful click count
- Total and failed redirect attempts
- First knowledge base article that created or used the link
- Created date and last clicked date
Editing a Short URL
You can edit the short code from the Short Links page. Nviti validates that the new code is available before saving it.
When a short code changes, Nviti updates knowledge base article content that already used the old short URL, so articles continue pointing to the right short link.
Best Practices
- Enable auto-shortening only when you want article URLs rewritten on save.
- Use clear custom short codes for links you expect to share directly.
- Review the Short Links table after updating articles so you can confirm the generated links.
- Use the QR download for campaigns, printed materials, event signage, or offline sharing.
